Expedite Expo 2013 Time!
While Bob was a driver with a major carrier and I rode with him and we saw those "Little Trucks" going up and down the road and noticed most were husband wife teams. Our interest was piqued.
It did not take much work to find Expediters Online in 2004 and we started spending all of our free time reading the forums. Each evening we sat at the computer and caught up with what had been posted that day. We read everything we could and learned which posters seemed to always write with knowledge not feelings.
The Expedite Expo in 2004 was much smaller at that time and the vendors where in a tent, many of the recruiters, where out in the sun or rain, which happened often. On the way to the Expo I picked up a new notebook and several pens as we where on a mission! We asked questions of everyone, vendors, drivers, truck salesmen, and recruiters. I took copious amounts of notes. We would ask recruiters questions and we would ask the drivers basically the same questions. Those notes were gone over with a fine toothcomb once we went home. We continued to read Expediters Online and compare what we had learned.
Our hard work paid off, as we are still happy with the carrier we choose, the first truck we bought taught us a lot of great things and was forgiving of our rooky mistakes, and we met a LOT of great people whom we are still friends with. One friend who is also our mentor is Terry O'Connell who at that time drove team with his wife in a van.
Now the Expedite Expo is rolling around again and it is another newbies turn to ask questions just as we did. The 2013 Expedite Expo will be held at the Roberts Convention Center, Wilmington, OH July 26th and 27th. There is plenty of free truck parking and also parking for many more cars.
Now the Expedite Expo has to be at least four times bigger then it was when we first attended and it is held inside. The Expo is big enough that there are vendors outside and this year we will once again have our truck out front and we will be giving tours of the Caffcadia and the sleeper, talking about Team Run Smart, and answering questions about Expediting. I hope everyone will stop by and say "Hi!" as we will be much easier to find then usual.
If you are at all interested in Expediting I encourage you to attend the 2013 Expedite Expo, as this is a one-stop shop! There is no other truck show or place where you can talk to so many active expedite drivers, recruiters, truck salesmen, and also many fleet owners. This show is shaping up to be the best show yet and we cannot wait to get there.
