Robert Burton Wins First-Ever Expediter of the Year Award at Expedite Expo 2017
The 17th edition of Expedite Expo, held July 14 and 15 at the Lexington Center in Lexington, Ky., had a big first: the delivery of the Expediter of the Year award to the first-ever winner, Robert Burton.
An owner-operator leased to V3 Transportation, Burton was nominated for the award by his wife and co-owner Christy. ?Robert is so much more than an expedite driver,? says Christy Burton. ?Robert is an owner-operator, as well as a great human being. He goes above and beyond to help anyone that needs him.?
And that giving spirit was on full display on Saturday when Burton received the award and then donated the accompanying $500 prize to St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, a charity that helps drivers whose medical problems have led to financial hardship.
The purpose of the Expediter of the Year award is to recognize those hardworking, professional and safety-conscious expediters on the road today who strive to make the expedite industry better and are deeply involved in serving and making a positive impact on their community.
Burton was selected for the award among a strong field of finalists that included Bob and Linda Caffee with Landstar and Edward Estes with Bolt Express. The finalists and winner were chosen by three independent judges from Women in Trucking Association, CIS insurance and National Truckin? Magazine.
When interviewed as a finalist for the award, Burton shared about his passion for expedited trucking. ?What I love most about expediting is that we're kind of like the emergency squad of the trucking industry,? says Burton. ?Customers depend on us to keep their lines moving. You just feel important.?
Burton also talked about how he enjoys the community aspect of expediting--having opportunities to meet and mentor other drivers. ?I try to help the new people out as much as I can,? says Burton. ?A lot of people come to me and ask questions, either on social media or in person, and I try to help them out as much as I can.?
